I had tried switching the master slave combo, switching IDE ports, using separate IDE ports (as the HD is using SATA)and replacing ribbon cables. My system specs are as follows: Win XP Home w/ SP2 installed (the problem also occured before SP2, if I recall correctly) AMD Athlon XP, 2083 MHz (12.5 x 167) 2800+ If your cables are securely fastened, it may mean your DVD drive is faulty.
