If you remove the device from device manager, windows will likely detect it as "new hardware" and then install it's generic driver. Installed Nero 7 in both Vista and XP machines. Is it an internal or external? As soon as I uninstalled it, the problems went away. You may have to boot into safe mode in order to remove the DVD drive if you're not successful from within the OS.
