Most of the big box stores that sell electronics have CDROM drive cleaners. Any ideas? I have an portable USB hard drive which has recently stopped showing up under My Computer, Disk Management. The only way I see that you can play your video files is if you convert them from .avi to .divx or reencode the the .avi itself to a different framerate. Figured it must have something to do with some software interacting with the writing aspect of the writers. To answer your question about getting data from a boot drive that has XP and another that has another OS, I would need to know the OS. Hard to tell.
