Turn the printer on. I have cleaned out the extra ink area buy unplugging the printer in mid-stride and allowing me access to this area it was pretty gunky. Think it may need to be taken in and serviced but since I've been visiting here and seen the variety of knowledge contained herein I decided to post and see if Is there away to tear this thing apart and clean under the print carriage? Hit the Form Feed button and HANG ON TO THAT WIPE. Plugged it back in let it run through its cycle and did a nozzle check and it worked well for awile. It is frustrating to print a large print and wait 25 mins only to find spots on it. See page 1-13 for instructions.

I possibly mis-stated what I was needing. There is optical sensor near the sponge to indicate when the print head approaches landing area. To print the manual completely, please, download it.

To determine whether the problem is caused by the printer itself, run a printer self test. Then the green OPERATE light remains solid ON.On feeding one sheet of paper through the manual feed in the back (not the tractor feed) the paper feed mechanism picks the paper See Chapter 4 for instructions. 7-8 light is on. The problem may be of mechanical or hardware type.
